Mission and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Women & Hi Tech Mission

Women & Hi Tech exists to change the landscape of women represented in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) to be equally inclusive to all.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

We welcome all who support, advocate, and/or promote the fair and equitable treatment and pay for women in STEM to join our membership. We specifically encourage women and girls of all abilities, ages, cultural backgrounds, races, ethnicities, national origins, socioeconomic statuses or income levels, geographic locations, faiths and religions, gender identities, immigration statuses, veteran or marital statuses, pregnancy or childbirth statuses, sexual orientations, as well as any other legally protected or vulnerable class or characteristics to join us. Women & Hi Tech values and respects the unique identities, talents, experiences, knowledge, leadership, and skills – both technical and non-technical – that are authentically inherent to women in STEM, and we strive to maintain an inclusive culture that promotes belonging through increasing diversity in our leadership, members, volunteers, participants, programs, and events in order to best live our mission. To support this goal, we will consistently focus on our Four Pillars of Diversity.

Four Pillars of Diversity:

  • Diversity in the Board – Organizations follow their leadership. Diversity on the Women & Hi Tech Board leads to better, bigger ideas that improve the organization as a whole. Our diversity goal for the Board is to reflect the community that we serve.
  • Diversity in our Members and Volunteers – Being engaged and involved in the whole community will require the collective efforts of the membership. Having diverse members and volunteers will allow girls and young women in the community to see representative STEM success in someone that looks like them, and increase the likelihood of participation among diverse community members in our organization and STEM generally.
  • Diversity in the Programs, Services, and Participants – We will develop programming, events, and/or services that benefit the whole community with consideration of diversity in what programs we offer; where they are offered (access); and the presenters, speakers, or participants that are involved (exposure/representation).
  • Diversity in Partnerships – We will actively seek opportunities to partner with organizations and/or individuals that share our mission and values in the areas of diversity and STEM.
